This is a high-profile national leadership opportunity at the nexus of technology, media, entrepreneurship, and philanthropy.
Our ideal candidate is a current or recent technology/media entrepreneur, excited about if not directly experienced in public service media, with superb project and people management skills, and the ability to inspire and facilitate visionary, sustainable change. Previous involvement with startup accelerators is a big plus.

Knight is investing $2.5 million over two years to start the Accelerator, and PRX’s seeks the potential to grow the fund and attract additional investors. Formally launching in Spring 2012, the Accelerator will invite entrepreneurs from the nonprofit and for-profit worlds to propose ventures that advance public media through developing and launching innovative products and services.
The Director is a contract position for a minimum of two years. The Director will provide leadership, strategic direction and overall management of the Public Media Accelerator. Reporting to the PRX CEO, the Director will work in close coordination with senior staff of PRX and Knight Foundation, with support from a dedicated program assistant.
Major responsibilities include:
- Develop strategies and lead efforts to recruit high-quality applicants, mentors, advisory board members, partners, sponsors, and additional Accelerator investors
- Work with the Advisory Board to establish policies, structures, and systems for effective operation and management of the Accelerator
- Manage relationships and facilitate involvement of participants and stakeholders
- Develop strategies for sustaining and growing the Accelerator
- Develop curriculum for the Accelerator program
- Oversee and lead Accelerator events, meetings, presentations
- Coordinate communications and publicity
- Oversee finances and budget
- Ensure compliance with grant requirements and reporting
- Significant entrepreneurial experience in media and technology
- Familiarity with and interest in public media
- Experience in managing intensive program with multiple stakeholder relationships
- Experience with grant and financial management and early-stage venture investment practices
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability and willingness to travel, attend meetings, networking events, often beyond the framework of a normal working schedule
- Boston-based preferred, Northeast corridor possible
Compensation is competitive for nonprofit tech/media, and based on experience. This is a contract position without benefits. The term is a minimum of two years with the possibility of extending if grant funding allows. PRX, Inc. is an equal opportunity employer.
